The areas are Lilongwe Nsozi North Constituency, Mayani North Ward in Dedza North Constituency, Lilongwe City South East Constituency and Mtsiliza Ward in Lilongwe City West Constituency.
In a statement, MEC Acting Chief Elections Officer Thandie Nkovole announced the unveiling of By-elections’ calendar in the respective areas where the polls are to be conducted.
During the calendar unveiling function, political parties, aspiring candidates, civil society organizations, traditional leaders and all stakeholders involved in elections were given the chance to seek clarification on any activity regarding the plans arranged for the conduct of the by-elections.
The Lilongwe City West Constituency is forecast to be the By-elections’ hottest spot as stakes are very high, with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) playing to defend the area while the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will be fighting to prove that it won during the 2014 face-off.
In May 2014, MEC declared DPP candidate Bentley Namasasu winner, but MCP protested and moved the Supreme Court to nullify the results.
