Speaking during the donation, Ambassador Shi Ting Wang of the People’s Republic of China said MBC is playing an important role in the understanding of the two nations through its coverage.
He said it is through MBC that the relationship between Malawi and China is getting stronger. Shi Ting Wang said the donation to the corporation will help to strengthen programme production and news reporting.
He then rated MBC as the best media house in the country. Among others he promised MBC to expect a lot from China as now it will start rehabilitating MBC Lilongwe studios. Ambassador Wang further said China will continue providing capacity building to MBC members of staff.
“MBC is the best media institution in this country; it has done a lot for Malawi and China. It is the most important media institution and the donation will assist corporation to upgrade its service to the nation,” said the Chinese Ambassador.
Receiving the donation on behalf of MBC, the Board Chairperson of the Corporation Rev Dr Billy Gama described the donation as timely as it will go a long way in helping MBC in its operations. Dr Gama said MBC has through the Embassy benefitted a lot from the Chinese government.
On the performance of MBC, the board chair said the Corporation will continue providing the best to the people of Malawi in its programming. He said MBC is always a professional media house hence the rating of MBC by Chinese Ambassador is not a surprise and Malawians should be proud of it.
“MBC is the top and effective media house in Malawi hence the donation will help to add value to the work we do,” said the Board Chair.
The Director General of MBC Aubrey Sumbuleta also said China has always been very supportive to the corporation as it has helped to change the outlook of the institution. He said MBC will continue serving the interests of Malawians.
Since the inception of the relationship between Malawi and China 10 years ago, China has shown commitment to the development of Malawi in many sectors.
