While confirming the development to MBC, National Police spokesperson James Kadadzela said the law enforcing agency wants a clarification from Chavura on some of the lines used in the lyrics of the song.

Chavura’s song continues to attract mixed reactions from various sections of Malawi society.

On Wednesday, retired Child Justice Magistrate Esmie Tembenu asked the Police to swiftly act on the matter arguing incitement of any form has legal consequences.

Meanwhile, Gender Justice Clinic, which is a component of Faculty of Law at Chancellor College has also condemned the song and has since demanded a public apology from Chavura.

In a statement made available to MBC Online, the Clinic’s chairperson Ulemu Kanyongolo said Section 132 of the Penal Code and Section 137 (3) of the same that prohibit rape also provide for the offence of ‘insulting modesty of woman’
