Apart from registering remarkable progress, Roads Authority Spokesperson, Portia Kajanga said there have been assumptions that people are refusing to move out of the remaining side of the road reserve between M5 junction to Nkhata Bay jetty.
“The Mzuzu-Nkhatabay road has two types of roads, the M5 and a tertiary road from Mzuzu to the junction at Nkhatabay. From there, it’s a tertiary road up to Nkhatabay jetty. The sizes are different.
“Because we are not clearing much space on the tertiary road stretch unlike the M5, some think maybe it is because people are refusing to move out. But that is not the case,” said Kajanga.
Currently, the contractor, Strabag will be finishing the M5 part of the road to connect the M5 Lakeshore road at Nkhata Bay junction.
Now, they are clearing the tertiary road between Nkhatabay junction through the boma to the jetty.
The contractor is also expected to construct some stretches within Nkhata Bay boma as part of its corporate social responsibility.
