Viola joins State House as Press Secretary

President Peter Mutharika has appointed journalist Gerald Viola as Presidential Press Secretary replacing Fredrick Mdala who has been deployed to Ministry information.


According to the announcement by Chief Secretary to government George Mkondiwa, the appointment is with effect from April 10.

"The appointment is in exercise of the powers conferred upon the state president by the Public Service Act," says the announcement.

Viola,a fresh bachelor`s degree in Journalism graduate from Pentecostal University once taught at Kaphuka Private Secondary School in Blantyre as well as , Mbiya and Rabu primary schools in Mgabu, Chikwawa district.

The silky voiced journalist also worked for Malawi Broadcasting corporation as well as Galaxy fm.

Viola replaces Fredrick Ndala who was redeployed to Ministry of Information after an alleged misappropriation of money in the state house press office.

After Mdala`s deployment, Timpudza Mwansambo has been acting on the same position until it was allegedly discovered that he was drawing two salaries from two sources; State House and from his former employer, MBC.

In the State House, Viola will join Chikondi Juma, Sylvester Namiwa, Justice Mponda and Gloria Masanza Kanyangw'a, the Press Oficers.
