“The total number of registered voters is also 97 percent of the registration figure for 2014 Tripartite Elections which was 904,567 voters. Phase two of voter registration covered Dowa, Nkhotakota, Mchinji and Ntchisi districts,” reads the statement in part.

The statement further says of all the registered voters for phase 2, a total of 462,925 are women while 411,706 are men.

“The Commission is urging stakeholders to exercise caution with the statistics because they are based on preliminary information captured during field operations and might change during computerization exercises,” adds the statement.

The phase 1 of the registration covered Salima, Dedza and Kasungu districts and Kasungu Municipality.

The Commission has put in place measures to ensure that all eligible persons register and also to avoid overcrowding at the registration centres.
