The activity follows the unfit condition of the bridge which has risky cracks, sinking and has outlived its usefulness.

Launching the construction works, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango said it is the wish of the government of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to ensure that all bridges on the roads of Malawi are in good state.

“We are also constructing the Chakazi Bridge, the Manoro Bridge, Mzimba Bridge, the Jenda Edingeni road, the Jenda Rural Growth Centre, Mzimba Council Office Complex, Mombela University and many other developments in the district,” said Mhango.

Speaking on behalf of local leaders in the area, Group Village Headman Julius Mbale hailed government for the developments.

“We were really worried, this road connects across section of the areas in Mzimba, we are very happy for the project,” said GVH Mbale.

The Mnjiri Bridge is located in Engalaweni Village about 3 Kilometers from Mzimba Boma and just after Mnjiri Community Secondary School in the area of Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba District.

The contractor, Samwama Civil Engineering is expected to complete the project in February 2019. Government will use 398.7 million Kwacha for the project.
