Road accident claims life

A 34-year-old Msusa Yasin of Makawa village in the area of traditional authority Mponda in Mangochi has died after being hit by a lorry that strayed from the road into his shop.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 15, 2018 at Makawa Trading centre.


According to Sergeant Amina Tepani Daudi, Publicist for Mangochi Police Station, Adam James Malunga (52) was driving the said lorry registration number BN 9880 from the direction of Mangochi Boma heading to Monkey-bay.


“Our investigations indicate that there was one passenger and loads of timber planks and mesh wire on board. Upon arrival at Makawa, Trading centre due to unreasonable speeding he lost control of the motor vehicle went to the extreme end of the road and crushed into a hawker where the owner was inside selling his merchandise,” said Sgt. Daudi.

Further details reveal that the lorry had it's front part extensively damaged. Following the impact, Msusa Yasin sustained severe head injuries and fractured arm.


He was rushed to Koche Community Hospital where he died whilst receiving treatment.


Adam James Malunga is in Police custody awaiting trial. He hails from Sumbi village in the area of Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi.


Meanwhile Mangochi Police is appealing to drivers to observe speed limits at trading centres to avoid similar accidents in the district.
