MUTHARIKA appoints Lt. General Nundwe as new MDF Commander

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Lieutenant General Vincent Nundwe as the Commander of the Malawi Defence Force, replacing General Griffin Spoon Phiri.

Nundwe, who has become the 13th  Malawian to lead MDF since independence in 1964, has subsequently been promoted to the rank of General.


A statement from the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) and signed by Chief Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara says President Mutharika has since appointed General Spoon Phiri as the National Security Advisor.


General Spoon-Phiri was appointed on July 29, and inaugurated as 12th Commander of MDF on August 24th 2016, replacing General Ignacious Maulana.
