National Tree Survival campaign solution to tree survival – Govt

Government has expressed optimism that the introduction of National Tree Survival Campaign will increase chances of tree survival during planting seasons.

Ministry of Energy, Mines and Natural Resources Public Relations Officer for the department of forestry Sangwani Phiri disclosed that the campaign has already started bearing fruits.

 

“75% of trees planted during the 2016 to 2017 National forestry season survived,” said Phiri.


Phiri further added that a number of mechanisms have been put in place to help tree ensure maximum tree survival.


“Apart from the Tree Survival Campaign we are also promoting the Forest Landscape Restoration where trees as well as shrubs are monitored as one way of promoting regeneration,” said Phiri.


This year’s tree National planting season was launched by the State President His Excellency Professor Author Peter Muntharika on 18 December 2017 in Mwanza District with a call for the stake holders to play a leadership role in environmental conversation.
