Deputy Chairperson of the Media Committee of Parliament Godfrey Mukhondya made the remarks in Lilongwe after meeting officials from the Ministry of Information and MBC. Mukhondya said despite inadequate resources, MBC has lined up an impressive elections coverage plan.

The Deputy chair has however expressed worry with the funding deficit from the proposed budget MBC presented to Parliament and has since pledged to lobby for the provision of the funds.

The Ministry of Information also informed Parliament that it is making all necessary arrangements for government and other stakeholders to start implementing the Access to Information law (ATI).

Principal Secretary in the Ministry Erica Maganga says the Ministry is working with Malawi Human Rights Commission to finalize the operation process of the ATI law and that a commencement date will be announced soon.

Commenting on MBC, Maganga says as a line Ministry, they are impressed with the preparatory progress on election programs made so far by the Corporation. Maganga indicated that historically MBC always abides by the code of conduct for elections which she is confident will happen again.
