Huawei Technologies donates to Gvt

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has commended Huawei Technologies for its active role in promoting the country’s information and communications infrastructure. The Malawi leader was speaking in audience with the company’s top management in Beijing, China.

Speaking during the function, President Mutharika spoke highly of the company saying the ICT sector is crucial to the development of the country as it is the backbone of many critical services.

 

“First of all let me say my deep appreciation to your company for partnering with ESCOM in Malawi. This project has set foundation for the second phase aimed at expanding internet penetration across the country.”


He added that apart from participating in several projects in Malawi, the company which has an employment base of 180,000 people across the world, has been an important development partner since it set its footprint in the country ten years ago.


Further to that President Prof. Mutharika assured the company that his administration will provide a secure and steady environment for growth of ICT sector in Malawi.


In his remarks senior vice president of the company said ICT is a catalyst for development. He further went on to commend government for the conducive business environment prevailing in the country.


At this point the company disclosed that it has participated in major ICT milestones in Malawi including the switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting and the installation of the Malawi National Optic Fibre Backbone Project.


“Here I would like to assure you that we will provide high quality products and services during the second phase of the project.’’

Also present during the ceremony was Deputy Managing Director for Huawei Technologies in Malawi, Titus Tasosa.


He said, “Huawei is supportive of Government of Malawi in the vision of bringing high quality ICT services to the country for the benefit of Malawians.”


During the ceremony the company announced a donation of 100 computers to government and also said next year it will take ten Malawian students for ICT training in China.
