The census is being conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO) with its 25,000 strong data enumerators team.
NSO trained 25,000 data collectors this time around equipping them with skills to do the exercise electronically. With financial support from Government and development partners NSO has been equipped with Lenovo tablets which are being used in data collection other than the traditional way of using pen and paper.
One of the enumerators said they were trained in using the tablet for 6 days and cited some challenges like poor reception they encounter at some houses.
However NSO’s Public Relations Officer Kingsley Manda said that the 2013 Act of Parliament protects the data collectors, and that they trained them on how to present themselves when they arrive at a house for data collection.
