Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe, while addressing a political meeting at Mpherembe in Mzimba, said the DPP led government has the obligation to develop Malawi through various projects implemented across the country.
Gondwe, who is also the DPP's Vice President for the North, assured people that government has plans to tarmac the Mzimba-Ezondweni road via Mpherembe.
“We have plans to tarmac the road from Mzimba boma to Ezondweni via Mpherembe and to Euthini and other roads leading to all Traditional Authorities,” promised Gondwe.
The Minister expressed hope that Malawi can further develop under the leadership of His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika whom he described as a man of integrity.
“I came here to tell these people how good the President is. I have personally known him as a man of immaculate integrity who is determined to develop Malawi. And this can happen if every one of us works hard in our various fields of expertise,” explained Gondwe.
He also advised people to choose leaders who can ably represent the aspirations of people to spearhead development in their communities. .
Taking his turn, Senior Chief Mpherembe thanked government for the Farm Input Subsidy and the National Identity Programmes. He however asked government to help in construction of police offices to enhance security in his area.
“I should thank government for the FISP and the national IDs. I have noted that those who benefited from the coupons have already purchased the inputs,” said Inkosi Mpherembe.
DPP Regional Governor for the North Kenneth Sanga said it was pleasing to note that the party continues to grow from strength to strength in the region.
“As you can see here at Mpherembe and the whole Northern Region, DPP is very strong. Come 2019, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, members of parliament and councilors of the mighty DPP will emerge victorious,” said Sanga.
Also present during the meeting were Minister of Transport and Public Infrastructure Jappie Mhango who is also the DPP National Campaign Director, Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community services and DPP Deputy Secretary General Grace Chiumia, Director for Women in the North Joyce Chikukula, the Director of Youth in the North Kelvin Chirambo and traditional leaders.
