This follows a promise which President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika promised people of Chiradzulu and surrounding districts on 15th January 2017 during that year’s Rev John Chilembwe memorial event.

The Malawi leader ordered the Ministry of Youth to build a community technical college that should be named Aida Chilembwe Community Technical College in honor of the wife to Rev John Chilembwe.

“I am ordering the Ministry of Labor to construct a community technical college at this place or else you will lose that Prado {ministerial vehicle},” said Mutharika while adding some jokes to the order.

To date with less than a year, the promise has been delivered to the people of the area who will see over 160 young people honing skills in almost 8 trades including IT, welding and fabrication, motor cycle maintenance, fashion and designing and many more life changing skills.

Speaking after touring the magnificent structure which has 8 classrooms and an administration block, Minister of Labor Francis Kasaira expressed his satisfaction over the quality of the final building.

“This is impressive and encouraging! We are happy that we have finally delivered what we promised people of this area,” said Kasaira who was accompanied by officials from TEVETA, his ministry and the media.

Kasaira also assured people that government will continue to fulfill its promise of constructing a community technical college in every district.

“We know that by December this year all districts will have such colleges because China and the European Union are building more colleges,” said Kasaira.

Contractor Fidelis Building Contractors has constructed the school which is well fenced and standing next to Chilembwe’s Memorial tower at PIM.

According to TEVETA, current students at the school are undergoing short trainings which will end this December for another full course next year.
