Ministry of Health receives K5bn for trachoma treatment

The International Trachoma Initiative through Sight Savers International has donated drugs worth K5 billion to the ministry of Health for the treatment of Trachoma in the country.


Presenting the donation, the Country Director for Sight Savers Roy Hauya said the drugs will go a long way in treating people with the disease in the country.


He said the World Health Organization has set 2020 as a target for Malawi to eliminate the disease; hence there is need for concerted efforts from different stakeholders to achieve the goal.


The Secretary for Health Macphail Magwira said the drugs will be administered through mass drug administration to 12 districts with much focus to Nsanje, Chikwawa and Mchinji district where there are more cases of trachoma.
