In a press statement signed by NAC Acting Executive Director Davie Kalomba says the president with powers conferred in him by the constitution has made the appointment.
“Government through the National Aids Commission (NAC) is pleased to inform the general public that it has pleased his Excellency the president of the Republic of Malawi, Peter Mutharika, to appoint a new NAC Board of Commissioners”, reads the statement.
Kyungu’s appointment ends the tenure of the former board which was headed by Mrs Mara Kum’bweza Banda.
Kum’bweza Banda’s term was embroiled in abuse of resources at NAC that led to government’s suspension of its former Executive Director Dr Thomas Bisika.
Meanwhile as a new broom, Kyungu is expected to bring sanity to the institution which remains in a financial control mess.
The full NAC board is as follows;
Chairman Paramount Chief Kyungu, Dr Albert Mkumbwa, Commissioner
representing private sector.
Bishop Ephraim Disi Mbewe, Commissioner representing People Living with HIV.
Chief Ngongoliwa, Commissioner representing Traditional Leaders.
Mr Chimwemwe Kaonga, Commissioner representing young people.
Reverend Reynold Mmangisa, Commissioner representing the faith community.
Mr Andrew Kaponya, Commissioner representing research and academia.
Secretary for health ex-officio member representing ex-officio public sector.
Secretary to the Treasury ex-officio member representing ex-officio public sector.
Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development, ex-officio member representing ex-officio public sector.
Secretary for Nutrition, HIV and AIDs, ex-officio member representing ex-officio public sector.
