Addressing members of the press in Blantyre Honourable Dausi who is also Minister of Information said all preparations have been completed. He said all delegates across the country are now in Blantyre.
“The budget for the convention is over MK90 million. The convention is the first of its kind in Malawi,” said Hon. Dausi adding that there is intraparty democracy in DPP as everyone even the youths have shown interest to contest in various positions at the Indaba.
According to the Organizing Chairperson, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who has no challenger is expected to arrive at the Convention around 10:00 AM on Monday July 2, 2018.
He however said there are no cracks in the ruling DPP as other media houses are reporting.
Meanwhile, battle lines have been drawn especially for the position of the party’s Vice President for the Southern Region.
Former Minister of Agriculture Dr George Chaponda who is also the current party's Vice President for the South is to face stiff challenge from Local Government Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa, Minister of Trade Henry Mussa and Joseph Mwanamveka who is the Minister of Agriculture.
On the other hand, Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba who is the DPP Central region Vice President will face Dean Josiah Banda and Uladi Mussa.
