The hotel which is being constructed under international five star standards started in December last year and is expected to be complete by December this year.
Commenting on the development, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Henry Mussa says government is committed to creating a conducive business environment for the private sector in the country.
“What it means is that Blantyre is booming. Government is coming up with facilities of international standards,” said Mussa adding that the facility will help to create work for Malawians.
The Minister added that the new five star hotel once completed, will not only beautify the City of Blantyre but also restore the city’s old glory of being a viable commercial city which will stand tall among other such cities in the region.
“The project is a milestone towards improving tourism and the private sector,” added the Minister.
The Sogecoa Golden Peacock Park will comprise a five star hotel, two restaurants, a shopping mall, conference rooms and also a casino. The project covers an area of 1.6 hectares, with a total floor area of 22, 000 square meters and the total investment reaches 25 million US Dollars.
The facility is in accordance with international five-star hotel standards with 210 luxury guestrooms in the main building.
