National Bank wins IndeBank bid

National Bank of Malawi has emerged a preferred bidder to take the operations of IndeBank.   Chief Executive Officer for Public Private Partnership Commission – PPPC, Jimmy Lipunga disclosed this during a press briefing in Blantyre. Lipunga said National Bank of Malawi had satisfied the evaluation committee on the price of shares, recapitalization and Information Technology it offered.

Timoteyozi Foundation has donated assorted items worth K3million to people affected by floods in the area of Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre.  Programmes Director for the Foundation, Charles Paundedi said his organization was responding to the call by the President to assist flood victims in the country.

Man set himself ablaze

Man in Mzimba has died following serious wounds he sustained after setting himself on fire.

According to Mzimba Police Spokesperson Constable Gabriel Chiona confirmed that the deceased Martin Gondwe was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzimba District hospital.

Chiona said Gondwe drained some petrol from a generator; pour it on his body before setting himself ablaze.

"What caused the death is still unknown but we are told that the deceased was heard screaming and mentioning about witchcraft at the compound,” said Chiona.

Details about the deceased remain sketchy but according to Chiona the late Gondwe had just been released from prison where he was serving a one year term for assault and bodily harm.
He is survived by a wife and a son.
