Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) was established under an act of Parliament in 1964 as a parastatal organisation. Radio 2 FM was officially opened by the then president of Malawi Dr Bakili Muluzi on 17th July 1997 as the second radio channel. Malawi Television (TVM) was launched on 1st April 1999 as the first public television broadcaster in Malawi.

On 1st July 2010 Government merged MBC and TVM to operate as one institution under the name Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). The new MBC is mandated to provide both radio and television services.
