Eid Ul Fitr public holiday to be observed either on June 4 or 5: LG Ministry

The Muslim's Eid Ul Fitr public holiday will be observed either on June 4 or 5 depending on the sighting of the new moon, the Ministry of Local Government and and Rural Development announced on Monday.

The Ministry said in a statement signed by its Secretary Charles Kalemba that it wished to inform the public that on advice from the Muslim Association of Malawi, "this year's Eid prayers marking the end of the Holy month of Ramadan will be held either on Tuesday, 4th June, or on Wednesday, 5th June, depending on the sighting of the new moon."

 

The Ministry said announcement of the actual sighting of the new moon will be made by the Muslim Association of Malawi. The Ministry "wishes all Moslems in the country and the public a happy Eid Ul Fitr holiday."
