Zakaliya died on Wednesday at around 7am at Thyolo District Hospital.
Mwase rose to fame as an actor through ‘Sewelo la Sabata ino’ aired on MBC radio 1.
Various fellow actors and artist have described his death as a big blow to the art development of the country.
One close friend of the late veteran Mafumu Matiki said the art society has lost a father.
“He has left a void that will never be filled. To those who knew Zakaliya knew him as an ever smiling person who was ready to share his skills with others,” said Matiki.
MBC producers have also expressed how easy it was to work and record with Mwase.
“We will miss his skills in our studios,” said one of the producers.
During the last days of his career Jacobs Mwase was seen personally selling his Tinkanena movie series in Limbe Township.
Mwase is survived by a wife and four children.
