Director of Administration for the Reserve Bank of Malawi, Patrick Mhango made the remarks during the official opening of a branch for the New Finance Bank in Mzuzu.

Mhango said it is imperative that banks help government in alleviating poverty in the country.

“We want banks and the citizenry to have a partnership and work together in the health and education areas among others. There are more efforts from financial professionals to reach out to those who are unbanked. This is a milestone as people of the city of Mzuzu will continue to access quality banking services while the banks are also executing their Corporate Social Responsibilities,” said Mhango.

On behalf of the New Finance Bank, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Gilford Kadzakumanja said the bank is working towards becoming one of the bestbanks in Malawi in terms of service and product provision.

“As a bank, we will continue to innovate and we are likely to unveil new products in the digital and electronic era. We came up north so that we have branches across the country,” said Kadzakumanja.

He added that they will partner with government in rural areas to provide banking services and entrepreneurial training so that they can transform their lives holistically.
