Couple arrested for conspiracy to commit defilement

Written by  Mana

Police in Balaka have arrested a couple for allegedly conspiring to engage in defilement on recommendation from the herbalist.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Balaka Police, Edith Kachosa on Wednesday confirmed the development, identifying the suspects as Malani Zamaleya, 35, and Felayi zamaleya 40.

Kachosa said Malani Zamaleya has been sleeping with his daughter (her name withheld) aged 15, since June last year for rituals.

“The couple bought a grown up cow and they wanted it conceive as soon as possible. So they went to a certain herbalist to ask for charms that would make the cow conceive as they wished.

“The herbalist told them their wish would be possible if Zamaleya’s husband slept with another woman apart from his wife,” said the police spokesperson.

“After discussing the matter at home, they agreed to sacrifice their daughter. The mother convinced her daughter to sleep with her father and the father did it for a number of occasions,” explained Kachosa.

He said the daughter then reported the matter to her uncle after seeing that her father wanted to continue having sex with her. His uncle reported the matter to police who arrested the couple.

The couple will soon appear in court to answer charges of conspiracy and defilement, according to Kachosa.

The police are currently hunting for the herbalist who is still on the loose. The couple hails from Traditional Authority Sawali in Balaka.
