Dr. Chaponda said the country can develop at much a faster pace when there are collaborative efforts between the two sides. He was speaking at Naming’azi prayer house in Mulanje where CCAP Blantyre Synod officially opened a church constructed with funding from a member of the church, Mweziwina Family.

“Other people think that all development projects should be done by Government but that is not correct. Yes Government has a role to play but at the same time individuals and organisations should take the initiative like the one we have here. Issues of development require that we work together, the Church and Government are partners in development, “ said Dr. Chaponda.

Reverend Masauko Mbolembole, Moderator for CCAP Blantyre Synod described the development as a milestone in the history of the Church.

“I would like to thank the Mwezinawina Family for the kind gesture; we don’t take it for granted. You look at this church infrastructure a lot of money has gone into its construction. Today we have come to inaugurate the church and officialy hand it over to CCAP Blantyre Synod and I believe that there are many rich people in our country and they should emulate the Mweziwina family,” said the Reverend.

On her part representative of the Mweziwina Family, Evelyn Mweziwina said it was the wish of the family more especially the late Henry Mweziwina who wanted to contribute a landmark piece of infrastructure to the church.

“We were inspired by the story of Nehemiah in the Bible and it has been our cherished dream to build a prayer house. We are very happy today because we have achieved our dream.”

The newly inaugurated Naming’azi Prayer House has been constructed to the tune of forty million Kwacha pumped in by the Mweziwina Family with top up funds raised through contributions from church members.
