They accuse the legislators, Patricia Kaliati and Angie Kaliati of not speaking on their behalf, on the issue of who should lead the party in next year’s polls. The constituents have said their candidate next year, is President Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika, nobody else.

Dalitso Banda, a councilor of Chole Ward in Mulanje Pasani constituency who was among the lead team during the demonstrations said their Member of Parliament works independently, and not with the people on the ground.

He added that what Kaliati is doing by rallying behind Dr. Chilima and not President Professor Peter Mutharika is an insult to the President and the DPP in Mulanje Pasani constituency.

“We are forced to support Saulos Chilima by our member of parliament instead of Professor Mutharika. Our MP is not focusing on development but serving his personal interests. He is doing nothing for the constituency,” said Banda adding that Kaliati do not even respect local leaders in the constituency.

Receiving the petition on behalf of District Commissioner Grey Mkwanda who is Chief Administration Officer in Mulanje assured the demonstrators that their grievances will reach to the right people for action.

“We have received the petition but as a government representative here in Mulanje, we will send the document to the right people,” said Banda appreciating the demonstrators for peaceful demonstrations as the council always expect peace and order from society.

Recently, people in the district also held similar demonstrations against parliamentarian for Mulanje South Bon Kalindo, demanding that he stops representing them in the national assembly.
