Never again to MCP- APM

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has declared that opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will never grace the corridors of power again as his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is set to remain in power until 2084, which is 66 years from now.

Mutharika said this on Tuesday when he addressed a developmental rally at Makuwa Community Day Secondary School ground in the area of Traditional Authority Ntchema in Chiradzulu, after inspecting progress on the Zomba – Jali – Chitakale Road and Phalombe District Hospital.

He said the DPP is currently working hard to address the development gaps credated by the MCP’s 31year rules, which he said was characterised by self enrichment and abuse of state resources by very few people.

“For 31 years, you were sleeping in grass-thatched houses that were leaking, while very few MCP officials and their cronies were constructing mansions for themselves. Hard working Malawians were being declared enemies of state and had their estates taken over. That is why I am saying never again to MCP,” said President Mutharika.

Turning to DPP’s in-house politics, the Malawian leader said the party would hold a convention where all the positions would be up for grabs. He also disclosed that the party would conduct primary elections between August and September this year for candidates aspiring to contest in the parliamentary and local government elections on the DPP ticket.

“Some people have been asking for a convention which has been granted and now they want to obtain an injunction to stop the same convention they wanted. What are they afraid of?” wondered Mutharika, noting that the DPP was very democratic.

He then announced that the DPP has started strategising for the 2019 Operation Landslide victory.
