Speaking when he addressed a public rally at Mpherembe in Mzimba, Professor Mutharika said government has in place programs that are meant to support people’s livelihood.
“My Government is committed to developing this area. A number of development projects have been lined up. The contractor is set and we will construct standard bridges, Kafukule Road is also on the cards and an irrigation scheme will be developed,” said President Mutharika.
The Malawi leader further said some of the programs include, social cash transfer, construction of community colleges and the Malata and Cement Subsidy program. President Mutharika also said the Northern region is no longer dead as the Malawi Congress Party-MCP used to describe it during the one-party era.

He said contrary to what some critics are saying, the north has experienced remarkable development in the few years of his leadership. The President cited the construction of modern roads such as the Arthur Peter Mutharika Highway and the Mzimba Water Project.
On the forthcoming tripartite election, President Mutharika urged Malawians to register in large numbers to enable them vote for the Democratic Progressive Party –DPP next year.
