Director of Elections Dr. Ben Phiri was speaking in Mzuzu when the party’s secretariat was interacting with DPP aspirants in the Northern region.

He said the party has hired an independent body comprising team of highly qualified experts to conduct its elections.

“We are more than ready and we look forward to a transparent exercise, that aside our primary elections will be unique and very organized,” he said.

The DPP Director of Elections said the ground work is almost set with the candidates also ready to battle it out in their wards and constituencies.

“We hope the system will get us best candidates to shine in the coming elections. I am also pleased with sense of maturity and caliber in the people who have so far declared interest in the North,” he said.

Meanwhile DPP Vice President for the North, Goodall Gondwe urged the party’s aspirants to be good ambassadors of the party.

“Our aspirants have got two key responsibilities, the first is to ensure they win the elections the second one is to ensure President Mutharika wins; therefore the task is to jointly enlighten people the fruits of the DPP government,” he said.

The DPP is expected to hold its primary elections in all the 193 constituencies in the country.

At least 90 people are battling it out for the 33 constituencies in the North, and over 100 people are willing to represent the party in local government elections in the 79 wards of the region.
