The Immigration Department in Salima has arrested Cassim Ali, a Pakistani national aged 24 who was working for KIPS Restaurant in the district for illegal staying in the country. District Immigration Officer for Salima, Dalitso Kakhongwe confirmed the arrest in an interview saying the Department apprehended the immigrant following a tip from well-wishers who alerted them.

“We were tipped by well-wishers about this Pakistani national who has been working for Kips Restaurant here in Salima. Following the tip we managed to arrest him upon his failure to produce necessary documents,” said Kakhongwe.

Kakhongwe further said the illegal immigrant came to Malawi for a visit in 2017 and has been in the country since then.

“This Pakistani national came here in 2017 for a visit and when his time of staying expired, he never went back. He has been staying in the country since then illegally and was working with KIPS Restaurant without permit,” he said.

The Department charged the immigrant with two offenses of illegal staying and working without permit which are contrary to the country’s immigration act. They have since deported him back to Pakistan.
