The European Union (EU) election observer mission on Friday deployed the last 32 "eyes and ears"of the Malawi tripartite pivotal poll on May 21, bringing to 85 the total number of observers by the EU alone.


Thugs assaulted and robbed two European Union election observers on Sunday in Chikwawa district, the EU elelction observer mission confirmed in a statement.


Malawi is ready for the May 21 vote, a senior official of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared Thursday night, assuring the 6.8 million voters not “to be afraid but go out to vote” as voting will be secret and secure.


Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah on Friday bemoaned transport bottlenecks ahead of the May 21 tripartite vote, saying from past experiences, she anticipates a shortfall of 700 station wagons and 346 trucks.
