Malawi launches Foreign, Diaspora engagement policies next week

Malawi is set to launch Malawi Foreign and Diaspora Engagement Policies on Monday, February 18 2019 in Lilongwe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced.

The Malawi Diaspora Engagement Policy seeks to establish a mutually beneficial relationship between Malawi and her Diaspora, with the underlying goal of engaging and empowering Malawians abroad to effectively make significant and effective contribution to the development of the country.


Among others, the policy, focuses on how to harness and maximize the potential of the many Malawians abroad to contribute to the socio-economic transformation of the country while at the same time meeting their wants, needs and expectations in a lasting partnership.


While the Malawi Foreign Policy (MFP) is spelling out Malawi Government’s policy on foreign relations, outlines priorities and guides the country’s engagement with the international community in advancing its national interest while responding to the emerging global issues.


According to Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Rejoice Shumba, the two Policies will be launched at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe, and will be presided over by Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
