Floods displace 137 households in Nkhotakota

About 137 households are homeless in Nkhotakota following heavy rains that fell in the uplands of Bua River and some parts of the district from 3rd to 9th February 2019.

The floods have mainly affected Mvula III Village, T/A Mphonde in the Central Region district. Approximately 753 people have been affected.

A report from Nkhotakota District Council indicates that the displaced, who have sought refuge at nearby Mvula Primary School and their relations’ houses, are in dire need of food, shelter and kitchen utensils.

The report further states that no injuries or deaths have been recorded following the flooding.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs has dispatched relief items to be distributed to the affected through the district council.
