Upon arrival at Dalian International Airport in the People's Republic of China, President Mutharika and Madame Gertrude Mutharika were met by Dalian Province vice-mayor Liu Yan, minister of foreign affairs George Chaponda plus senior government officials from the People's Republic of China and Malawi.
The Malawi leader then proceeded to Shangri-La Hotel in Dalian where he was welcomed by finance minister Goodall Gondwe, minister of trade Joseph Mwananvekha and Malawians based in China.
While in that country, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will, among others, meet the Premier of the People's Republic of China and a number of potential investors who have expressed interest to invest in Malawi.
The bilateral talks with the Chinese Prime Minister will also discuss the second phase of China’s development projects in Malawi.
The Malawi leader is also expected to have an audience with several prospective investors that intend to establish new investment projects in Malawi.
Some of the projects Malawi has benefited from china include the Parliament building, Karonga-Chitipa Road, University of Science and Technology (MUST), Five Star Hotel and the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC)
The Chinese government plans to increase its trade investment in Malawi from $40m US $250m.-additional reporting by Sam Phiri.
