Football Association Malawi (FAM) has disclosed that it the senior national team will play friendly games against Zambia, Egypt and South Africa as part of preparations for Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament.

FAM General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the association discussed with their Egyptian counterparts during the Confederation of Africa Football Congress held early this month.

Nyirenda said FAM also discussed with South Africa Football Association (SAFA) over a training match ahead of the COSAFA tournament scheduled for May 17-27 in South Africa.
“The team is travelling to Lusaka Zambia for a friendly game on May 10 before meeting South Africa and will also play Egpyt on June 8," he said

The football association’s move to arrange a friendly game has been boosted by SAFA’s intention to arrange a friendly match against a Southern African nation in showing solidarity to calls against Xenophobia being perpetrated by South Africans on foreigners living and working in the country.

“We already talked to South Africa for a training match and the issue of solidarity match will also boost our chances of securing the friendly,” Nyirenda said.

This is a boost to Flames coach Young Chimodzi who requested for at least two friendly games in preparations for COSAFA and Africa Cup.
