FMB Bank raises Youth League sponsorship

First Merchant Bank (FMB) has raised the sponsorship of National Youth League from K10 million to K20 million.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in Blantyre by FMB’s Head of Marketing Silvia Nankwenya during a cocktail saying the increase was made to help in the development of sports in the country.

She said the bank was proud of playing a part in the development of youthful players who are the nursery for the national team.

“It is pleasing to note that through our sponsorship the Football Association of Malawi has managed to use some of the players who trace their background to this league,” Nankhwenya said.

Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu applauded FMB for contributing towards youth football development in the country.

Nyamilandu said the bank had proved that it was true partner to FAM in the development of football.


“I would like to thank FMB for considering to raise the sponsorship for the youth league. The youth league plays an important role in the development of football in the country because it provides a feeder to the teams,” he said.

He also appealed to the soccer fraternity to support the bank by among other things opening bank accounts and other banking business with FMB.

National Youth League of Malawi Chairperson Mabvuto Missi said with the increase it has included Karonga and Mchinji to the eight districts of Blantyre, Zomba, Dedza, Kasungu, Mzuzu and Nkhata Bay.

Missi said the NYLM has produced a good number of stars playing in top league and national team citing Ernest Tambe, Boston Kabango, Chawanangwa Kaonga, Bright Munthali Victor Mpinganjira, Isaac Kaliati to have started their career in the youth league.

During the event FMB also donated four sets of uniform to be used in the semifinals and final.
