It was not a walk in the park for Chidale who had to count out veteran golfer MY Patel on 19 points.
Former Blantyre Sports Club captain James Chimwaza also finished on podium position with 18 points.

Chidale capped a brilliant performance of the competition which drew 40 golfers with two subsidiary prizes in nearest to the pin on hole one and also won a two club of K9,000.

In the ladies category seasoned golfer Roza Mbilizi carried the day having scored 18 points.

Chidale attributed his performance to his playing partners who gave him a push to do well.

“I would like to thank sponsors for making it possible that the tournament should be sponsored and my playing partners,” Chidale who received a bottle of wine valued at K59,000.

Blantyre Sports Golf Captain John Gift Mwakhwawa applauded HM Winehouse owned by Wilkins Mijiga and his wife Rachel for coming to the rescue of the competition with the sponsorship at short notice.

Mwakhwawa said the golf fraternity broke the norm to hold the prize presentation away from Blantyre Sports Club to respect the sponsors.

“I would like to thank HM Winehouse for the sponsorship at short notice. I hope this is not the last time,” Mwakhwawa said.

Managing Director of Winehouse Rachel Mijiga said the sponsorship was one way of giving back to the golfers who patronise the place.

“We are sponsoring golf because of the customers that come here also belong to the golf fraternity. We wanted to say thank you to our customers who also happen to golf players,” Mijiga said.

She also promised that they would sponsor another competition next year.

Blantyre Sports Club also received K75,000 towards golf course maintenance.
