Speaking in Mzuzu Product and Operations Manager for Airtel Money Bigboy Makoloma said Airtel Malawi would continue sponsoring netball as a way of developing players for the national team.
“We decided to sponsor netball with a whooping amount of K360 million as a way of improving netball in the country so that the Queens should continue to be number one in Africa,” said Makoloma.
Makoloma also disclosed that this year`s Airtel Money national netball finals would take place in Mzuzu towards the end of this month.
“This year Airtel and Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) have agreed to have the national finals at Katoto netball grounds in Mzuzu starting from 29 to 31 May,” disclosed Makoloma.
Chairperson Northern Region Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) Chancy Munthali applauded Airtel Malawi for sponsoring the tournament from grass root level.
Munthali said the tournament was changing lives in women and girls through prize money which is given out through Airtel money.
“You know Airtel is assisting in improving lives of players through individual and team prizes given out through Airtel money,” said Munthali.
She also said that the regional finals would involve district champions in the Northern Region.
She urged all the teams to display a fighting spirit throughout the competition in order to emerge Northern region Champions.
Last year Mimosa Queens of Mzuzu were the champions at regional level in the Airtel Money competitions.
