Surestream Academy Public Relations Offiver Linda Chiume Phombeya said the management of Surestream has since appointed veteran youth development coach Abel Mkandawire to take charge while searching for Mponda’s successor.

Mponda resigned three weeks ago but in a dramatic turn of events Surestream Academy management accepted last week under controversial circumstances.

“So far nobody has taken over from Peter Mponda as Technical Director. Abel Mkandawire has just been chosen as head coach to help the other coaches and help in training players both for the academy and football team because they all train at the same time,” Chiume Phombeya said.

She said it would be at the discretion of the management to decide when to appoint Mponda’s replacement.

“I am not sure when they are intending to recruit someone to take up Peter Mponda’s position. That’s a management position.”

She also confirmed that the players faced Mzuni FC on Saturday at Kalulu Stadium with nobody taking charge of the team after chasing other coaches.

“The players didn’t want any other coach to sit on the bench and the coaches Abel Mkandawire and Sherry Msuku. To avoid any misunderstanding the coaches give in and let the players play without a coach.
