Kamuzu Stadium renovations almost complete

Renovations of the Kamuzu Stadium are almost complete. The Blantyre historical soccer maker has been under intensive maintenance that included the laying of a new 400-million Kwacha artificial turf.

And according to Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Minister Francis Kasaila, the re-opening of the facility has delayed because some of the materials, such as the rubber, were not readily available at the time the work started.

Said Kasaila: “Am happy to report that the contractor is back on site and that he is finishing the installation of the turf. All other maintenance works such as the dressing room, the VIP and police stands, the toilets for the open stands were done.”

Meanwhile, Kasaila also said that preparations for the construction of the new state of the art stadium at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre are underway.

“We have done all the preparation works. Transfer of the land ownership is done- it is now in the name of the Sports Ministry. Officials from building and engineering departments are finalising their designing. The moment we are done with the designing we will hand over the documents to the economic development and planning and they will be responsible for making sure that they find the resources and also make sure that we have the contractor,” he said.
