Croatia has made history at the on-going FIFA World Cup to beat South America’s football power house Argentina with three goals to nil.

Though the odds favoured Argentina,  but as it is generally said football is never played on paper but on the pitch, the "La Albicelestes" were outplayed by Croatia which had a more organised team.  Messi, who turns 31 on Sunday, failed to get even one shot off against Croatia on Thursday, five days after he missed a penalty in the team's opening 1-1 draw against Iceland.

In the 53rd minute, Argentina’s goalie blundered by flicking the ball which landed on Croatia’s defender Ante Rebic. He recovered the ball before sending it into the net much to the bewilderment of Argentina’s fans.

While Argentina pressed on to recover from a goal down, Luka Modric netted another with a hooking shot in the 80th minute and Ivan Rakitic undeniably handed Croatia a clear victory over Argentina when his goal came in the stoppage time.

If history has to repeat itself, this is another humiliating defeat for Argentina at group stages of the international football competition. Its worst loss in group stages came in 1958 when it it was beaten 6-1 by Czechoslovakia.
