The launch of the elite football competition in the country now pegged at K90 million, is set to be exciting as the league’s theme this year focuses on the player who is the main entertainer of the game but welfare is oftentimes compromised.
TNM has decided to coin this year’s Super League theme as ‘Our Players, Our Heroes, Our Pride’ in order to drive home the message that the players deserve the best.
TNM Chief Commercial Officer Daniel Makata said the sponsorship for this year’s Malawi Super League has been increased from K65 million to K90 million in line with the company’s theme of enhancing competitiveness of the game and the welfare of the players.
“TNM is the number one fan of football in this country and we realise the importance of the player to the game. This is why this year we are focusing on ensuring that Super League players are given the best the league can offer. We want to be in line with how other leagues across the globe treat their players. We may not match their spend on players, but we can still do more for our players,” said Makata.
He said in line with this theme, the player was the main reason why TNM decided to increase the sponsorship value from K65 million to K90 million.
“You will note that team and individual awards have increased significantly.”
This is meant to build the spirit of motivating the player who is the hero of our beautiful game,’ said Makata.
In addition, in the course of the season, TNM will also engage in various activities that will build on this theme of motivating the player.
To mark the launch of the league, the country’s top mobile phone company has lined up a number of activities aimed at creating fun and entertainment. Among the activities, there will be music performances by Skeffa Chimoto, ‘the Jaming Machine’ and Simon and Kendall of the Nyemba Nyemba fame, games and competitions outside the Civo Stadium from 10am, according to Makata.
“The music performances and games before the match between the giants of Malawi football, Big Bullets and Silver Strikers will accord fans the chance to interact with the sponsor and the players. We know that fans only see the players from afar but on this day they will have a chance to interact and take pictures with them which they may share on TNM social media, even on their pages,” he said.
The defending champions, Big Bullets are away against Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium.
This season battle will for the title involve teams such as Civo United, Blue Eagles, Moyale Barracks, Kamuzu Barracks, Mafco, Airborne Rangers, Epac United, Azam Tigers, Red Lions and Mighty Be Forward
Wanderers while rookies Surestream, Dedza Young Soccer Stars and Mzuni University will have a feel of the country’s top league.
