The movement aims at sensitizing the Malawian rural communities on health issues including dental hygiene. However, the campaign is also one way of reaching out to people’s spiritual lives through intervention and spreading of the Gospel.

Reacting to the development, Group Village Head - Chonde, Bertha Saikonde, said such interventions play crucial role in their lives as they are taught how to lead clean, healthy and active lives.

“We are very thankful for the generous work that the JWC is doing for the rural community. It is my prayer that the Almighty continues to use them to reach out to many like us. However, we would also like to learn more about cervical cancer as it is affecting most of our women today,” narrated Saikonde.

Speaking during the campaign in Mulanje, Audiology Specialist, Chikondi Chabaluka said apart from the common health issues addressed in the country, it is equally vital for Malawians to be equipped with knowledge on issues surrounding hearing defects and the diseases that may lead to hearing loss.

“Audiology almost did not exist here in Malawi up until now. However, there is currently a rise in the number of children with hearing impairments in the country and it is important that people become aware of how such problems can be dealt with before they become severe,” Chabaluka said.

Founder of the initiative and member of the JWC, Kirk Schexnider unveiled that their team is currently working to build a clinic in one of the rural communities where the hygiene outreaches are carried out within Blantyre.

With an aim to expand their campaign, the JWC has by far carried out outreaches in areas like Mulanje, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Mdeka, Lunzu and Luchenza.
