Speaking during the meeting with the People's Party (PP) on the determination of constituencies for 2025 elections, MEC Chairperson, Justice Chifundo Kachale, said the electoral body has met over 3,000 stakeholders as part of consultative meetings to seek the public view of the programme.
"As a Commission, we are aware of the sensitivity of the boundaries demarcation exercise as far as the democratic dispensation of the country is concerned, hence our thorough consultation," said Kachale.
He added that meeting various stakeholders is a great opportunity of addressing some of the challenges the exercise may face politically.
He then hailed the People's Party for presenting its views on the initiative as supporting the reforms.
In his remarks, PP's Administrative Secretary, Ben Chakhame, who represented the party's president and former President of the Republic Dr Joyce Banda, commended MEC for transparently conducting the exercise.
Parliament will continue using the old boundaries until the new proposal to expand the number of constituencies is approved.
