President Professor Peter Mutharika has been appointed Global He for She Impact Champion.     

The State House Press Office says the United Nations Headquarters has identified President Mutharika for the appointment following his commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, ending child marriages and gender-based violence.     

Recently the President was appointed Champion of Higher Education in Africa by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture.  

He was also appointed to serve as a member of the Leadership Council of the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition as well as the Grow African Partnership Initiative by the African Union Commission and NEPAD.


Chatinkha Maternity Care in need of K68m

The President for Chatinkha Maternity Care at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Dr Frank Taulo has called on companies and organisations to assist the wing in raising K68 million for the purchase of equipment.
Dr Taulo made the appeal in Blantyre during a fun run event aimed at raising funds for the wing. Some of the companies that participated during the event include, The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation-MBC, Malawi Revenue Authority, Airtel, TNM, Malawi Savings Bank, and ESCOM.


Ettinor Koloviko resigns from PP

The Peoples Party – PP continues to lose senior party members through massive resignations.

The resignations have become the order of the day in the PP with the latest being the Deputy National Director for Women, Ettinor Koloviko. 

According to Koloviko she has decided to dump the PP since the party has lost direction. 

Koloviko also attributed her move to the absence of the party President Mrs. Joyce Banda who left the country about ten months ago to some undisclosed location.

Senior members of the party who left recently include the Vice President for the South, Brown Mpinganjira and the Vice President for the North Harry Mkandawire.

Joyce Banda’s running mate in the May 20 polls Sosten Gwengwe has also indicated his intentions to dump the orange camp.  


Fire guts Kamuzu road market

Fire has gutted Kamuzu Road Market in Salima. Police Public Relations Officer in the district, Gift Chitowe said the fire started in the early hours of Monday as one of the restaurant owners in the market left a burning charcoal burner. According to Chitowe many shops were damaged by the fire.
