Speaking during the handover ceremony TNM Mpamba Trustee, Professor Ken Maleta said the investment demonstrates TNM’s commitment in supporting government’s efforts in uplifting education standards in the country through provision of good learning environment.
“At TNM we recognize that education is the backbone of Malawi’s social-economic development that is why we have seen it befitting to assist in the construction of this classroom block. We saw on social media that pupils at this school were learning in the grass-thatched structures, we believe that this will enable learners excel in education,” said Maleta.
He said that the investment is a fulfilment of the Mpamba Trust’s pledge to give back to communities and make Malawi a good dwelling place.
“Over the years, Mpamba Trust has developed a track record as a socially responsible corporate citizen. The investment here at Kanjedza fulfils the Mpamba Trust’s pledge to invest back into communities and continue to be a reliable partner for development more especially in the education sector,” he said.
He added that Mpamba will continue to partner Government and communities to build a better Malawi.
“Since its inception, the Mpamba team has been very busy working towards efforts that build a better Malawi. We have actively played a noble role in partnering key social sectors such as Education, Health and vulnerable groups. This is a role we are comfortable carrying forward into the future and Malawians can always look up to Mpamba Trust as a true partner,” added Maleta.
Receiving the donation and present, District Education Manager for Machinga, Yobu Makina Gama said the school block will go a long way in easing shelter challenges that the school was facing as other pupils were learning in shades or under trees.
“This is the kind of partnership we want with the private sector. Pupils will now concentrate and learn in a more conducive environment,” said the DEM.
Under the education pillar of the Mpamba CSR interventions, schools that have benefitted so far include Zolozolo CDSS, Chipoka in Salima, Namitete, Nkope and Phirilanjuzi Lilongwe, Luchenza Secondary School, Soche Hill in Blantyre and Chiweni Primary in Chiradzulu.
