India to increase trade opportunities in Malawi

The Indian government has pledged to increase trade opportunities in Malawi through Foreign Direct Investments-FDI.

The new Indian envoy to Malawi Suresh Kumar Menon disclosed this at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe after presenting his letters of credence to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.


Menon said he will work towards increasing Malawi’s exports to India in an effort to equalize trade opportunities between the two countries.


During the audience, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika deliberated with Mr. Kumar on several issues of common interest between Malawi and India.


Mutharika said strengthening of diplomatic relations between Malawi and India will yield positive results both in the short and long terms for the betterment of the two nations.

 

“India remains one of Malawi’s strategic partners at a time we leverage our opportunities following the emergence of BRICS bloc. Being one of BRICS major players, India offers well-balanced trade opportunities for our economy as evidenced from previous interventions in Agricultural Irrigation, Manufacturing and Services,” said Mutharika.
