The awards were given out on Tuesday in Lilongwe during media conference on disability and the elderly at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Tawakali, was awarded for his consistency in reporting disability issues on MBC TV.

Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, in conjunction with the Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (Fedoma), organised the conference.

In an interview, Tawakali told MBC Online that the award has energized his resolve to do more in promoting issues of disability in the country.

Nation Publications Limited (NPL) journalist Mercy Malikwa won the print media category, while Times Media Group was named the best media house on disability reporting.
