Speaking to MBC, PAC Chairperson Reverend Felix Chingota said government has shown commitment to curb corruption.
Said Chingota: “We can go back and talk about the arrest of former Agriculture minister Dr. George Chaponda and in the recent one, the warrant of arrest for former president. For us as Public Affairs Committee, we just want to commend Government for that one. All we can ask is for Government to continue fighting corruption.”
Concurring with Chingota, Youth and Society – YAS Executive Director Charles Kajoloweka has also strongly spoken in support of the development saying it was a step to hold the former president accountable on allegation of her involvement in cashgate.
“She has been mentioned on a number of times, at the same time, when we look at the key convicts in cashgate had mentioned the former head of state. It is important that we had the key institution to hold her accountable,” said Kajoloweka.
Echoing Kajoloweka’s sentiments Executive Director for the Church and Society Program, of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia Moses Mkandawire added that the country needed to be serious in fighting corruption.
Said Mkandawire: “What the government is doing, in issuing the warrant of arrest, is one way of showing that it is serious in curbing the vice. If the former president was indeed involved in the stealing of public resources, let the court determine.”
Mkandawire further appealed to all stakeholders in the country to join hands with Government in the war against corruption.
Last week, Police issued warrant of arrest against Joyce Banda saying the law enforcement agency had uncovered evidence that is linking the former leader to systemic looting of public money.
